Structural alignment using MET
(Muscle Energy Technique)
This technique looks at the role of the soft tissue of the body in terms of health and dysfunction. Structural alignment is determined by a series of flexibility, postural and range of motion tests.
The theory is that constrictions and restrictions in the soft tissue (muscle, fascia and connective tissue) can pull the bony 'structure', spine / pelvis / hips, out of alignment. Therefore by restoring the soft tissue to its normal state the skeletal system can return to a healthy state of alignment.
It has been known for clients to have a result similar to a chiropractic adjustment once the soft tissue has been restored to a healthy state. For instance later after the treatment with a deep breath or a cough vertebrae have 'clicked back' into place.
Utilizing the incredibly effective and painless Muscle Energy Technique (MET is also used by Osteopaths) to restore proprioceptive integrity by resetting muscle length. This provides relief from spasms and restrictive movement. The client is asked to participate in the session, using their own muscle energy, during a series of stretches and contractions against the therapist. Respiratory assisted technique
contributes to the lengthening of muscles also in a passive way.
Soft tissue manipulation is used to break up adhesions, soften fascia and lengthen shortened muscles. Contributing to flexibility, hydration (fluidity, elasticity and tone) and restoration of soft tissue and having therefore a positive affect on one's structure. |
